Grants Funding Criteria
The Women’s Inter-Church Council of Canada is a national Christian women’s council which encourages women to grow in ecumenism, to share their spirituality and prayer, to engage in dialogue about women’s concerns, to respond to national and international issues affecting women, and to take action together for justice.
The World Day of Prayer is celebrated in more than 170 countries around the world on the first Friday in March annually. From the offerings received in Canada during the observance of the WDP, funds are made available to support projects in Canada and abroad.
- An application for a project grant will be considered from:
- national and international organizations supporting local initiatives with and on behalf of women;
- Canadian ecumenical organizations;
- denominational groups that have ecumenical outreach serving women within the wider community;
- local women’s groups in Canada.
- Applications which support program work with women in the following areas will be considered: violence against women, economic justice, health, education, racism and peace. We encourage projects that:
- are cooperative and promote self-sufficiency
- contribute to raising awareness of underlying causes of suffering
- contribute to women’s empowerment
- enable women to develop their full potential
- provide education and training for women
Limitation: WICC does not give grants to individuals, or for buildings or general operating expenses.
- Grants range between $500 and $5000, Canadian funds.
- Applications must be received by March 1st each year. All applications will be reviewed and chosen by the selection committee. Final approval will be made by the Council at its spring meeting. Applicants will be notified of the Council’s decision by June 30.
- A follow-up report on the work for which funding has been received is expected within six months of receipt of the grant.
