2010 Grant Recipients
The Women’s Inter-Church Council of Canada is grateful for your generous offerings at local World Day of Prayer services across Canada. These offerings enable WICC to provide $134,300 in grants to projects that benefit women and children around the world. Grant applications, due March 1, are available from the WICC office. The following projects received grants in 2010:
International
- Kenya: $5000 to “Women & Children in Stress - Strength” (National Council of Churches of Kenya)
- Kenya: $4500 to “Female Genital Mutilation" (INVA Community Development Organization)
- Democratic Republic of the Congo: $4,500 to to "Dropped Out School Girls Empowerment” (Centre D’Education et Development de FIZI)
- Democratic Republic of the Congo: $4,900 to "Alternatives & Horizons” (Avevena RD Congo)
- Lesotho : $5,000 to"Girls as Agents of Change in Lesotho” (Help Lesotho)
- Senegal: $2,000 to “Empowering APROFES in the Struggle Against Violence” (Canadian Crossroads International).
- Cameroon : $5,000 to "OK Clean Water project” (OK Clean Water Project)
- Switzerland: $5,000 to"Hope for Overcoming Violence Against Women” (The World Student Christian Federation)
- Papua New Guinea: $5,000 to “Adult Literacy Classes” (Church Partnership Program)
- Thailand: $3,500 to "Feminism, Social Action & Spirituality in Asia” (Inter Pares)
- India: $4,600 to "Collective for single women with HIV” (Rural Education & Economic Development Society REEDS)
- India: $2,000 to "Empowering Marginalized Women” (Team for Education & Action Trust (TeaTrust))
- India: $5,000 to"Removal of Child Prostitution & Child Labour” (Care Voluntary Organization)
- India : $4,800 to "Education & Counseling for Women & Girls exposed to Trafficking” (Paul Foundation)
- Bangladesh: $4,000 to “"Light for Repressed Rural Women & Girls” (Meghna Mohilal O Shishu Unnayan Sanstha (MEMSUS))
- Bangladesh: $5,000 to “Women & Adolescents’ Empowerment” (Integrated Village Development Society (IVDS))
- Pakistan: $10,000 to Flood Relief plans, matched by CIDA
- Trinidad & Tobago: $500 to "Parenting” (Mothers’ Union of Trinidad and Tobago)
- Guyana: $4,500 to "Single Mother Agriculture” (Christian Development Foundation)
- Nicaragua: $3,000 to “Agriculture Diversification” (Horizons of Friendship)
- Haiti: $2,000 to Earthquake Relief Fund, matched by CIDA
- USA: $1,000 to "Let there be Life" (World Student Christian Organization)

- Ontario: $4,000 to "Bridge funding for Settlement Services" (FCJ Refugee Centre)
- Ontario: $3,750 to "Good Shepherd Lodge” (Women’s Inter-Church Council of Sarnia)
- Manitoba: $5,000 to"SARAH & SADI" (Survivor’s Hope Crisis Centre)
- Saskatchewan: $5,000 to "Women Empowering Women" (Women of the Dawn Counseling Centre)
- Alberta: $4,500 to "Life Skills Education Program" (Sonshine Community Services)
- Alberta : $4,000 to "Healing & Recovery Retreat for Women Victimized by Domestic Abuse and Violence" (Riseup Ministries)
- British Columbia: $5,000 to "Woman: Rise Up!" (Resist Exploitation Embrace Dignity REED))
- British Columbia: $4,000 to "Transformational Training for Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal Women" (Wish Drop-In Centre Society)
- British Columbia : $5,000 to"Anti-Violence for Women Through Traditional Knowledge" (H’ulh-etun Health Society)
- Ontario: $3,750 to "Outreach to Immigrant Women“ (Canadian Centre for Women’s Education & Development)
- Ontario: $2,500 to "Canadian Theological Students’ Conference" (Canadian Theological Students’ Association)
Proceeds from the World Day of Prayer also support the international organization, cover the costs of printing and distributing WDP services and resources throughout Canada and support the ongoing work of WICC.
